Refrigeration Technician

Catelli Brothers Family of Foods, located in Collingswood, NJ, is a producer of the finest quality veal and lamb products. We are currently looking for a Refrigeration Technician. The Refrigeration Technician position maintains the daily operation of the facility refrigeration systems and performs the mechanical and electrical maintenance activities required to operate the system safely and at maximum efficiency. Technician will assist in other Maintenance Team activities as needed. This position will be hiring for full-time and part-time. This role reports to the Director of Maintenance. 
Duties

Reviews refrigeration equipment manuals and develops preventive maintenance programs to ensure that refrigeration equipment performance and reliability remains at high levels.

Identifies critical parts required to maintain equipment, determines minimum on hand requirements and ensures that parts are available to minimize out-of-service time.

Audits existing preventive maintenance programs on an on-going basis and makes changes to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

Communicates effectively to other Maintenance Associates about refrigeration systems repairs that have been performed or are scheduled to be performed. Keeps Management informed on the status and progress of repairs performed on the refrigeration systems and their effect on area temperatures.

Ensures that proper sanitation is performed after maintenance has been performed.

Performs cleaning of the refrigeration cooling unit coils.

Audits the refrigeration compressor room daily and ensures that tools and safety equipment are stored properly.

Ensures that chemicals used by the refrigeration system are labeled properly and stored according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Ensures that waste oil is collected and stored properly according to federal, state and local requirements.

Meets with Management to discuss and resolve problems relating to production room, warehouse and freezer temperatures.

Meets daily with tool crib to discuss refrigeration system work order status and provide feedback on work status and backlog.

Meets with Maintenance Buyer as needed to order parts and clarify purchase requisitions.

Meet with contractors as needed to discuss refrigeration system projects and system maintenance requirements.

Ensures that the refrigeration system operates at the highest efficiency possible.

Ensures that all associates under their supervision follow all corporate safety procedures and comply with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Enforces safety rules and encourages safety practices.

Promptly reports all unsafe conditions and takes corrective action.

Performs other task and projects as directed.

Qualifications

    Requires advanced technical and working knowledge in operating, isolating for repairs, and maintaining complex refrigeration systems and equipment.

    Must be very knowledgeable in responding to refrigeration systems emergencies and isolating sub-systems under emergency situations.

    Must have sound understanding of techniques for work prioritization and scheduling.

    Knowledgeable in preventative maintenance techniques pertaining to refrigeration systems and able to develop preventive maintenance programs from vendor manuals.

    Working knowledge of personal computer spreadsheet software programs.

    Working knowledge of electrical power distribution, instrumentation and Programmable controller (PLC) programming.

    Must be able to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.

    Must be knowledgeable in refrigeration system lubrication requirements, and cooling tower water treatment methods.

    Must have working knowledge of OSHA and GMP requirements as they pertain to refrigeration maintenance activities. Must be very knowledgeable about EPA regulations pertaining to the release of refrigerant.

    Able to work flexible hours and overtime as required by workload.

    Must be willing and able to contribute to and implement department programs, procedures and systems. Will work in typical maintenance conditions. Will frequently enter various refrigerated areas of the plant to perform maintenance activities. Frequent stay in the refrigerated areas may be for extended periods of time.

Education / Training

High school diploma or GED required.

Basic Reading, Writing and Math skills.

Related Experience/Requirements A Minimum 3- 5 yrs experience in meat production or retail meat manager with Journeyman
Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Job requires workers to lift up to 60 lbs. must be able to: step, climb, balance, squat, kneel, bend and reach above shoulders as needed.

Work in a cold refrigerated environment
